another month another project

so for the past two weeks I've been rooming with some friends in Halifax.

why you might ask? why because i was a participant of the Summer Rock Camp. www.summerrock.ca

basicaly i spent two weeks learning theory and preparing for a performance. which i must say turned out superb.

my band (called the sprockets) did an original for the final concert, as well as a finch cover. it was really intense. it's true what they say. when your on stage and feeling the music, you totally forget about everything. there were camera guys around me apparently and i never noticed.

though there were times that i felt like i was jittering like a fish out of watter. but apparently i looked cool, so it was A+.

all in all i didn't learn a LOT. but i gained allot of confidence in what i do know. so it was worth it.

now i need to start doing portraits and god knows what i'm going to do with my web comics.

curent updates of my week will

so I'm trying really hard to start doing portraits for money. i sorta need to make aprox. $360 to pay for some stuff.
so i need practice with portraits.
thus i shall be doing you tube portraits! :D

Might being the word of choice. i get to choose when and who i do for A, i pick at random. B i need a half decent shot I'm not gonna draw someone with some retarded look on there face cause they can't make a straight face at a camera. C, i have time restraints.

anyways I'll be starting later on this week, taking a two week brake at the end of next month because of rock camp. and then I'll be back at it, hopefully by then I'll be selling them as well.

anyways, to add to awesome. I'm reading some sandman books i got from the library. I have been Waiting for YEARS to read these books. they are deliciouses. they should be mandatory reading for all art students.

also I'm working on Project PIXYZ again right now. i finally got my computer back from the dead. every thing's safe. and i've got some fresh ideas to add to the story, make it better then it was before.

and MHC part one is finished. I'm diving into the new chapters with a totally new page layout and Colour!

script frenzy begins

so today is the first day of Scrip Frenzy! and i've got 700+ words written down to start off my script. i've been exploring the special short hands and set ups that are used in scripts. (the Screnzy forums are a great help, as well as the tutorials on the site.) but anyways, lets not bore you people with random talk of technical stuff. at least not today.
I'm unsure of weather scripts are my favorite form of writing though. i love working in a visual medium though, so scripts are for the most part important. it's just that with a movie script i have to consciously stop myself from OVER explaining things. if you over explain a characters actions and such, the actor is left without a place to put himself. all the artists that work on the sets can't put themselves in there if the sets are set out precisely in a script. it goes the same for all the other people who have a hand in the creation of a film.
but i still enjoy writing scripts because their so easy for me. for the exact reasons stated prior. their just not my favorite.

ANYWAYS! so the script is a sort of surreal mafia story. i've got some fun characters and some classic gangster personalities, with a bit of unique ability's for a few of the characters (not like super powers or anything, just small stuff.) I've gotta say i might turn this into a comic after, or actually film it. not really sure. but it'll go into my vault of writings.

anyways, all I've got so far is concepts for two of the characters. but the idea for the rest it pretty much solid... in my mind...

hey i'm posting more often!

yeah, it's a good thing isn't it.

so me and my brother have been working on a series for the past... year? year and a half? i don't really know anymore. ANYWAYS, it's gone through... three... four incarnations? already, though the premise hasn't changed... or well... space hasn't changed anyways.

so yeah, it deals with two 18/20 year olds getting thrust into space and lots of craziness ensues. I'm reluctant to call it a 'web toon' due to the pidgin hole that term has found itself in, but it is going to be on the internet, so it technically is a webtoon.

anyways, we have some pretty crazy stuff planned for it. lots of characters lots of fun events to go through. and were serious enough about it that there will be those "mushy" parts that will make you want more and more and MORE!

anyways, so we were testing out gimp as a compiler for everything. it's nothing like flash, but we don't have flash and from what i remember i don't have adobe image ready... so yeah here's a concept doodle for the main character of this project me and mah brother are doing.

the hair's gonna change and maybe her nose will be more slender. but i like allot of what I'm seeing. and i've got more in my head. oh god she's gonna be a fun character to write. :3

other then that. life, i still don't have a job because there's no work for me at work. so i've been around town dropping of resumes. as i've put it I'm 'backstabbing the boss 24/7' oops. to bad for him, i need reliable hours man! reliable!

anyways yeah, other then that. lots of stuff art wise, I'm doing some tutorials for DA. nothing fancy, just techniques i know for drawing faces and whatnot. I'm thinking of doing a tut with everything i know about comics. i swear i know more techniques then i use lol. also since i can't get my web comic updates online properly just yet. i'm writing a side story, and it has EEEEEVIL!!!!! things... in it. I'm done the first chapter, i just need to send it through my sister for editing. :3

i have a seriously serious case of artist block, not only the fact that my adobe on a broken computer not helping, but I've got absolutely no muse, no ideas, no want to make anything, drawings, poetry, scripts, photography, it's all blah... I'm even being stupid with my music though I'm getting back into that.

anyways. so i may or may not get my job this summer. which means I'm on the edge of a knife when it comes to getting that tablet i wanted this year. anyways, if i do or if i don't I'm still going to summer rock. gonna rock it out man!

speaking of music, Tegan and Sara announced the release of their new album, it'll be out this year. and it's called the con. i can't wait. also Sara... or was it Tegan? they sing back up on one of rise against songs on there new CD (which is postponed) I'm not an uber rise against fan, but there good and i wanna hear that song :3

saw V for vendetta the other day, i was very pleased with the ending and think now was a great time for the movie to come it. it held a lot of meanings in it.

my brain needs to stop projecting

sorry for not posting in such a long time, no real excuse. but here i am again. back in action.

you know, even though I’m not big on blood and gore especially the graphic stuff the Silent Hill movie pleased me. I recently saw it with the majority of my family (it's a real good family movie! :D... if no one's like 12. lol) and it really was a great horror, but i recognized so many elements of suspense/thriller in it. which i think is what made it and the games so good (I’ve only ever seen SH4 being played, but popular opinion supports my statement!).
I also liked that the blood and gore was (to an extent) not glorified and it really was creepy and disturbed. that's why i want to see a horror, because this shit does disturb me. and emotion is the base meaning for all artwork.

anyways, i also hit 7K hits with my DA that's 3 thousand hits in like... two and three quarter months. or something like that. I’m pleased.

also i have another project (project DH)... yeah i need to prioritize, but this one wont go into actual production till i get everything around it set up. (like a website, and the script, and the character designs. probably not for another year or so.)
but i got some more done on the PIXYZ books i actually have the beginning of the first and last book but not the middle book that one's going to be a little hard to start off. A+ people this is going to be A+

anyways. not allot of exciting stuff going on. school, lazing around. i got a bit more done on my PIXYZ books. and I'm doing a 12?... yeah about that, a 12 page comic using the original script for the movie 'Stay' i feel it would be good for a portfolio to put a few of the better pages in it. for diversity.

also I'm wondering if anyone has any links to some nice blogspot skin codes. simple codes that can be easily edited. or at least codes with markers to show where to put what. i might have mentioned this in my last post... but i don't remember. oh well.

three days after that day of 'Lurv'

so valentines day passed. I made a bunch of cards for a bunch of people i know because hey why not! also I’ve got no one of my own to lavish hours and hours of time on, so i needed something to keep my mind off of that.

also here's a one page comic i did today out of random inspirations including dony darko and some British movie i saw a while back. i called the page 'Air Born'

so if you want some back story to understand what was going on in my head read the words in red otherwise skip that boring drivel.

So the two kids (no names) were playing baseball when suddenly in the middle of the field SPLAT this woman lands out of the air. Shattering her bones and spilling her contents, anyways these kids are desensitized thanks to movies but are still kind of in shock so there kind of not thinking right. Anyways, the woman was alive from the instant she began to fall till the moment she landed; this was because of a rift in the fabric of time-space. There’s no reason why this happened, but just think what she must have experienced in that instant of life, Realizing things but not knowing the danger ahead.

anyways. the whole thing isn't that interesting. but i thought it was cool. and lucky readers of my blog, your the only one's who get to see it! i figure i might as well have some cool stuff just for blog readers.

soooo yeah...

i bought a skate board for 14$ at Wal-Mart. there was a big sale cause it's moving locations so i was like cool! i don't actually know how to RIDE a skatboard but hey... you know... it's just another form of transportation.

Also the other day i picked up yo-yoing. it's fun! and i recommend it to everyone. My yo-yo is currently old and broken and doesn't work very well... but i shall "pimp" it out Rock and role style.

In Other news, i stopped my violin classes and I’m now taking voice lessons. i want to train my voice enough so that i can eventually sing and play an instrument at once. So this should be interesting, Very interesting indeed.

so today i drew up a new page of MHC and this was one of the blocks featured in that page. what you are seeing is the character Milan swinging what i call a 'Donky' the e purposefully omitted for "Coolness effect" Donky's are made from indestructible paper mashe and are often used as blunt weapons.

as well on feb 12th i will celebrate Mr Happy's Corner's 1 year anniversary. i will probably hold a contest of some sort... dunno really though... anyways...

nothing up with that lately... going slow. but i have been teaching my family to draw from the same course book that i learned out of. so I’ve got allot of time taken up by that as well as regular school and curling every Saturday...

it's the cast of the musical RENT, and I’m proud to say my friend enjoyed the gift. which dropped a bit of weight from my chest. i always hate it when i don't make good art for people... it's really disappointing... but this peace was not that! indeed no it wasn't...



there were a few booboo's in the anatomy of some of them people but nothing horrible.

Life

so the past week, i got to hang out with my two best friends. the one came up and visited me, and i got to go up and visit the other afterwards. so i sort of had an overload of Friends! cause i don't get to see either of them to often.

but i got to see "children of men" with the one, and the whole theater was empty cause we went during the week. my god that movie is a hart breaker. I recommend it to everyone and anyone who wants to see a relevant movie to our times that still has a decent amount of fiction in it. A++ for that cause it made me cry at the end.

Music Movies and birthday guifts

so today at about 12:01 pm, i finished a peace I’ve been working on all month. I’m actually quite pleased with how i went about finishing it. Through plane old laziness and an urge to do something different, i painted the final touched with a broken pencil...
the whole peace is mixed medium. Made with normal and pencil crayon, pencil, marker, and acrylics. i made it for my best friend's birthday, which is today! she's turning 17. in ways she's like a sister to me, in other's she's just a really good looking friend.

anyways, other then that i've just been watching a lot of movies lately. dinotopia... i don't recommend it... but it's fun.
Cube! great Canadian independent goodness. crazy movie, even if i predicted the ending not even half way through...
two of the actors in cube play in the movie "Nothing" (same director as cube, but a completely different mood.) which is also awesome, actually on of them has a role in Star Gate. which many people hail as being "the next star trek" and he really is a good actor. David Hewlet I believe is his name. you can check out his website here [ www.adogsbreakfastmovie.com ] the link is courtesy of my sister, so I’ll thank her for that.
i also saw the movie "stay" again. D:! i love it! and recommend it to anyone who likes those Hollywood style mellow movies about life and death and depression.

Back to art again! So I’m working on drawing two characters, owned by someone I met on DA. He asked for people to draw his characters so I’m like Sure why not!?
So yeah I’ll post a link to that when I’m done, I wont post the image because well… there his characters and lets keep away from copywrite things.

waiking life

I just finished watching a vector movie from 2002 called Waking Life. it was seriously amazing. just outstanding, it really got my gears running in my head. Though I wouldn't recommend it for EVERYONE though i hope everyone finds the will in themselves to watch it. Because not only is it wonderful to look at, it's just fun to listen too.

it's about a man who gets stuck in a dream, and throughout the dream he talks to many people about life and it's meaning.
though that description does the movie no justice any more explanation would give away more then is necessary.

also i've started music classes again, bass and violin... thinking of switching from violin to voice lessons. we'll see where that leads.
i haven’t written much on any of my projects. but i did start teaching my family how to draw this week, I’m basically reading them the "drawing on the right side of the brain" book and since i've already gone through it (minus the last two and a half chapters) i know what and why there doing things.

This untitled work by Winston Rowntree is amazing, it's no longer then 20 pages but it really doesn't need more. In the long run this is a message that has been said already but Winston put it into a very well done visual, which actually shocked me in the end (that’s a hard thing to do). This isn't just A+ pacing this is A++ pacing with amazing art as well. So I recommend you read it and show it to your friends.

In other news today is Saturday... that means I go curling at the gym. It’s the only sport I seam to do well at so I like it.
I can't believe it took this long for snow to finally fall this heavy. Like seriously, all winter it's been green just green, green, green maybe a bit of snow here and there. But it's finally thick amounts of snow! Sadly I can't be happy about this weather pattern cause I’m one of them crazy people who's all OMG GREENHOUSE AFFECT! Harper, give us Kyoto!

Anyways, I’ve been working slowly on the books and all the projects. Though I do have a peace almost done for a friend’s birthday. Which once I give it to her I’ll post a photo of it.
But I did update Mr Happys Corner. The newest page is done completely with pencil. I ended up putting to much detail into the pencils before I inked, and so I decided to just go pensolo lol get it… yeah anyways. So check that out (there’s a link in the links box)

the Duke of rochester

I would just like to drop a quick word about a project and a movie

First the movie. I caught the libertine on the movie networks “on demand” it’s a great thing really, and I get it free so that’s a plus.
Anyways, the movie stars Johnny Depp, wonderful actor no one can deny it. His role as the duke of Rochester was amazing. The character was so perverse and demented, yet I connected to him in the most emotional ways. I don’t find myself to be perverse or demented, but his cynicism was just so prevalent and just overwhelming you can’t help but feel sorry for him, to really wish he had a better mind to believe in something. I swear Depp couldn’t pull that off better the second time. It was just that good, amazing a beautiful. if you haven’t seen it you missing out on an amazing experience.
Though I might add, the whole movie really is perverted, so I don’t recommend it for week stomachs. Or perverts.

On to projects, I’ve begun writing the first of three books in the PIXYZ series. Once I’m done all three I’ll release the second book, followed by the first and then the third. The order is intentional for it explains itself out in the order. Also this deals with such a large picture that the first book is like a prologue to the second, As is the third an epilogue.

Remember HOLIDAY OF THE LIVING DEAD, I lost allot of the film files when my computer went kapoop. So now all I have is the action seen and a few scraps... so I’ll put that together eventually and post it on you tube as "Buddy the vampire slayer" though I don’t know when I’ll get that done.

What else... oh yeah, I want to do a newspaper strip. Get my name out there a little more. Alas I can't write newspaper quality jokes... I don’t know why, it's just not in me, I need plot I need substance; I need story arcs that intertwine! I like to play with my readers too much... sorry about that, it's just the truth.

But I’ll look for someone who can help me at least get into the groove of writing newspaper funnies, either that or read allot of newspaper funnies and be like I learn the way of the funnies!

And the other is a girl named Megan (so far) she has a pretty big role to play in the series though she won’t appear till the second part.
